14" Sansevieria Zeylanica

$199.99

Sansevieria zeylanica, commonly known as Snake Plant or Mother-in-law's Tongue, is a popular and hardy houseplant known for its architectural foliage and low maintenance requirements. Here are care instructions for Sansevieria zeylanica:

1. Light: Sansevieria zeylanica tolerates a wide range of light conditions but prefers indirect to moderate light. It can also tolerate low light but may grow more slowly in such conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, especially intense afternoon sun, as it can scorch the leaves.

2. Watering: This plant is drought tolerant and prefers to dry out completely between waterings.  Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot.

3. Soil: Sansevieria zeylanica prefers well-draining soil. Use a cactus or succulent potting mix or amend regular potting soil with perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage.

4. Temperature: It prefers average room temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). It can tolerate temperatures as low as 50°F (10°C) but avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C) for prolonged periods.

5. Humidity: This plant is adaptable to typical indoor humidity levels. It doesn't require high humidity to thrive.

6. Fertilizer: Feed sparingly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer), about once a month. Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when growth slows down.

7. Propagation: Sansevieria zeylanica can be propagated by division or leaf cuttings. Division is the easiest method: carefully separate overcrowded clumps of the plant during repotting. Leaf cuttings can also be rooted in soil or water.

8. Pruning: Pruning is generally not required for Sansevieria zeylanica except to remove dead or damaged leaves. Trim any yellow or brown leaves at the base using clean, sharp scissors.

9. Pests: Sansevieria zeylanica is relatively pest-resistant, but it can occasionally be affected by mealybugs or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

10. Potting: Repot young plants annually in spring to refresh the soil and provide more space for growth. Mature plants can be repotted every 2-3 years or as needed.

Sansevieria zeylanica is a versatile and forgiving plant, making it suitable for both novice and experienced indoor gardeners. With minimal care, it can thrive and add a touch of greenery to any indoor space.
