Tansy is a woman-owned, family-operated plant nursery and home goods store with locations in Burbank, California, and Newark, New Jersey, founded by Shawna Christian.

After a 20-year career running a successful IT company, Shawna found herself ready for a change. Around the time she turned 50, she had an “aha” moment: it was time to pursue something she had loved her entire life—plants.

In 2019, Shawna took a leap of faith, investing her savings to open Tansy in Los Angeles. What began as a new chapter quickly grew into something much bigger. In October 2025, Tansy expanded to Newark, becoming one of the city’s only Black woman-owned plant and retail store and quickly building a devoted community of plant lovers and plant-curious customers.

Tansy’s mission is simple but powerful: to help make every home a place that inspires joy and reflects the unique personality of the people who live there.
